What is Green Tea?

Green tea comes from the leaves of a plant scientifically called Camellia Sinensis. It is the same plant that gives tea-lovers oolong teas, and black teas. The reason why green tea has so many benefits is that green tea contains many antioxidants including Catechin and epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) which are great in treating an assortment of diseases. EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant, particularly as green tea leaves are steamed.

Green tea contains compounds called catechins, which boosts the immune system and prevents the flu infection. The benefits of drinking green tea include fighting the flu bug because catechins have a general anti-viral effect. Gargling is thought to induce more benefits of green tea and tackle viruses than drinking, because this way the bugs are exposed to the green tea for longer.
